Recent Research on the Nocebo Response

The nocebo effect, originally defined as adverse effects from an inert treatment, is known as the less well-studied counterpart of the placebo effect. Prof. Petrie will introduce us to his ground-breaking research on the impact of nocebo responses on the perception of symptoms, side effects, treatment efficacy, and non-adherence.

Prof. Dr. Keith Petrie is professor of Health Psychology at the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Auckland, New Zealand. His intriguing research focusses on nocebo and placebo responses, symptom appraisal, the role of patients’ illness perceptions and adherence in chronic illnesses.
