PhD Positions in the Graduate Program at Hamburg School of Infection & Immunity (HSII)

Start of the Program: October 2023 in Hamburg

About Us

The HSII - Hamburg School of Infection & Immunity - was founded at the beginning of 2022. We are part of the Academy of Biomedical Health and Sciences (ABHS) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) in Hamburg, Germany. Our goal is to support the graduate education at UKE, especially of PhD students, in the fields of infection, immunity and inflammation and bring together the brightest minds of young medical and natural scientists curious to learn about the fascinating complexity of immune surveillance, its challenges by infectious agents, and the plasticity of its adaptive and regulatory responses in health and autoimmunity.

Our Program

The HSII offers a three-year curriculum for PhD theses. The training is supported by a broad range of collaborative research programs including CRC1192, CRC1328, FOR2799, FOR2879, and FOR5068, which provide the specific research focus on infection, immunity and inflammation for the participating scientists. In addition to courses in Good Scientific Practice, Presentation and Writing Skills provided by the Academy of Biomedical Health Sciences (ABHS), HSII offers all students specific courses on Key Skills, Interdisciplinary Topics, and Research Methods. Over the course of the three-year program, PhD students will earn 180 credit points, of which 150 credit points are for the dissertation and 30 credit points are for accompanying courses. The credit points are based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).The teaching language is English. Student funding is guaranteed for the duration of the project, with a probationary period of six months. The remuneration corresponds to the common German pay grade TV-L EG 13 (65%).
