The International Research Training Group (IRTG) is a joint research and training programme that brings together excellent early-career researchers in an international and interdisciplinary scientific environment. Through the close collaboration between the Hamburg and Paris sites, the IRTG creates an integrated research platform dedicated to advancing cardiovascular science and promoting scientific exchange. The programme combines cutting-edge research with a structured 3.5-year PhD curriculum. Doctoral researchers work in binational tandem projects under joint supervision by researchers in Hamburg and Paris and benefit from an individually tailored qualification programme that integrates scientific excellence, methodological diversity, international mobility, and the possibility of obtaining a binational doctoral degree within a cotutelle framework between Universität Hamburg and Université Paris-Saclay.
Doctoral researchers are enrolled in the structured doctoral programme at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) and Universität Hamburg. The qualification programme includes theoretical and methodological courses, transferable skills training, scientific seminars, retreats, and hands-on workshops in modern cardiovascular research techniques. Research stays and laboratory rotations between Hamburg and Paris further strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and practical scientific training.
Through its structured curriculum, international environment, and interdisciplinary research network, the IRTG provides excellent conditions for doctoral researchers pursuing careers in cardiovascular and translational biomedical research.
