Some talk about environmental protection – we take action

Sustainable practices have now become an integral part of our everyday lives. Since years, UKE has also been engaged in sustainable ideas and activities. Under the leadership of the „Sustainability and Climate Management Staff Unit“, concrete sustainability goals are formulated and projects initiated. The priorities set by the “Green UKE” working group, with regard to mobility, energy and building management, gastronomy, and procu-rement, are being continued through the expansion of the sustainability strategy..

As early as in 2016, UKE was recognized as an „ecological hospital“ for its commitment to sustainability, in a nationwide competition by Foundation for Ecology and Democracy.The hospital received an award in the “large hospitals” category and the jury also particularly honored its energy-saving measures.

ESG und CSR

The abbreviations "ESG" and "CSR" are often used synonymously with the term "sustainability." "ESG" stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance (environment, social issues, and (appropriate) corporate governance), which are used to assess the influence and impact of a company's activities on the environment, society, and stakeholders. By involving company management, the aim is to establish the implementation of sustainable, responsible business practices in the minds of executives.

"Corporate Social Responsibility" (CSR), also known as corporate social responsibility, encompasses the management of a company from an ecological, economic, and social perspective, taking into account its impacts on society and sustainable development.

At UKE, all sustainability issues, including ESG and CSR matters, are managed by the Executive Board in collaboration with the Sustainability/Climate Management staff unit and other UKE managers, such as the Security & Compliance division and other UKE representatives.
