Green Goals

As a green hospital, we strive to act according to the sustainability principles in all areas, to the best of our ability. This means harmonizing economic, ecological, and social goals:

To this end, we are guided by the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The "SDG Wedding Cake" diagram illustrates how the economy depends on a functioning society.

Both factors can only be functional if the biosphere is intact. The SDGs thus combine social, environmental, and economic dimensions and must be taken into account when implementing sustainable development.

    Medical quality

Our mission is to restore our patients' health. That is why maximum medical quality is and will remain the most important basis for patient satisfaction. We want to continuously improve this. We not only work according to the latest medical standards, but also constantly analyze and improve them through innovation and close integration of research and teaching in the spirit of a university hospital.

    Economic efficiency

On the one hand, our population's demand for quality and quantity of care is increasing, while on the other, the healthcare system continues to face increasing scarcity of resources. We want to proactively address this challenge. Interdisciplinary collaboration at all levels in research, teaching and healthcare, coordinated processes and consistent modernization, incorporating state-of-the-art technology, logistics and information technology, are our guarantees for greater efficiency and economic success. This is both the result and a prerequisite for consistently achieving patient satisfaction.

    Environmental and social responsibility

Our commitment to the health of our patients can yield lasting value only if we succeed in developing healthier lives in a livable environment. For us, it is a matter of course to do everything we can to improve the environment.

Every resource is valuable to us. We always limit our use to the necessary degree, select our products according to ecological criteria, and prefer local suppliers.

At UKE, people work for people. Therefore, the satisfaction of our employees and patients is our highest priority. We recognize the importance of a livable environment for well-being. We will therefore continue to create meeting places on our premises for everyone, places that are both relaxing and conducive to exchange.

Attractive working conditions for all professional groups, active health promotion, and a culture of openness and exchange of knowledge and opinions are an important basis for the continuous development of our hospital in research, teaching, and medicine..
