Welcome to the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy

We are responsible for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of psychological and psychosomatic anomalies, abnormalities and disorders in infants, children and adolescents. Our approach is holistic, taking account of the family and social context of the patients.

Our services for children and young people embrace a wide spectrum of psychiatric and psychosomatic problems and disorders, and include an extensive program of outpatient care and inpatient care in our unit of 60 plus beds. In the interests of patients and public health we also engage in public information activities, provide advice on health policy issues and produce reports and assessments.

In addition to the clinical education of students, we offer specialist training for physicians aimed at improving quality standards. Regular training courses are also offered to various professional groups. We also carry out wide-ranging research into epidemiological, evaluation and socio-psychiatric issues.

The department works in close cooperation with the German Center for Addiction Research in Childhood and Adolescence that is attached to our unit, as well as with Altona Children’s Hospital and the MediClin Seepark clinic.
