Once treatment and rehabilitation are completed, follow-up care typically begins. This can also be conducted by the treating oncologists or general practitioners. At the University Cancer Center Hamburg (UCC Hamburg), we offer patients comprehensive counseling on the topic of follow-up care after cancer treatment. Often, there are uncertainties about which examinations are truly necessary and who the appropriate contact persons are. There may also be unresolved questions regarding late and long-term side effects or symptoms that cannot be clearly understood.
Our comprehensive counseling and support services on lifestyle complement the information on medical follow-up care. It is an important goal of ours to motivate and assist patients in adopting a healthy and conscious lifestyle.
In our consultation clinic, we develop a personalized follow-up plan for patients who have recently completed therapy and are transitioning into tumor follow-up care. We also explain:
For patients whose therapy was completed some time ago, we provide counseling on physical and psychological late and long-term effects of their illness and offer tailored treatment recommendations based on their needs.
If needed, we can refer patients to additional counseling or services, for example, on topics such as exercise and physical activity, nutrition, psycho-oncology, or complementary medicine.
