About our Institute

With the appointment of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Berger (“Mathematics in Medicine") and Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Höhne ("Medical Informatics") in the year 1978, the Institute for Mathematics and Data Processing in Medicine was founded.

At the beginning of 2003 the Department of Mathematics in Medicine was converted into an independent Institute for Medical Biometry and Epidemiology (IMBE), which became a part of the newly established Center for Experimental Medicine.

Prof. Dr. Karl Wegscheider was Director of the institute from 2007 till 2016. Since May 2016 he has been working as a senior professor at the institute.

Prof. Dr. Heiko Becher accepted the invitation of the University medical-center Hamburg-Eppendorf to become Professor of Epidemiology in 2014. Since than he is head of the department for epidemiology at our institute. He works also as the director of the institute since April 2016.

From January till June 2017, Prof. Dr. Geraldine Rauch was Deputy Director and Head of Biometry at our institute.

Since April 2018, Prof. Dr. Antonia Zapf is Deputy Director and Head of Biometry at our Institute.
