Consultation Session for AML Patients

Acute Leukemias (acute myeloid leukemia , AML, und acute lymphoblastic leukemia , ALL)

Which patients do we see?

  • These consultations are intended for patients with suspected acute leukemia who are seeking medical advice. Our services are also for elderly patients who do not want to undergo intensive cancer treatment. It is also possible to come to us for a second opinion.
  • After intensive inpatient therapy, patients can receive maintenance therapy (especially by ALL) at our outpatient clinic.
  • Patients with acute leukemia can have aftercare check-ups, e.g. determination of minimal residual disease (MRD).
  • Patients with rare subforms of AML, the so-called promyelocytic leukemia (APL) receive curative therapy with arsenic trioxide and all-trans-retinoic acid.
  • Elderly patients with AML can receive outpatient treatment, often with innovative drugs.
  • The outpatient clinic is tightly linked with the Leukemia Ward.

You can have your regular meal on the day of your first appointment. Please bring a current physician’s referral for the Outpatient Clinic for Hematology/Oncology with you.

Clinical Trials

Especially for older patients and also for those in which an initial chemotherapy was not very effective, we perform clinical trials. These trials allow us to improve existing therapy options and/or possibly implement new treatment regimens. Here we often use new and innovative medications for treatment.
