Specialized palliative care inpatient ward

On our specialized palliative care inpatient ward, patients with incurable progressive disease, mainly cancer patients, are cared for by a multiprofessional team. The team includes specially-trained physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, physio-, music and art therapists as well as pastoral workers and volunteers. Our goal is to monitor and to attend to as many problems and needs of patients and their families as possible.

Specialized inpatient palliative care aims to maintain the best possible quality of life of patients in the remaining life time by respecting their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. The relief or stabilization of physical symptoms and psychosocial issues may enable the patient to subsequently receive outpatient care, e.g. by referral to hospice or specialized outpatient palliative care.

Our specialized palliative care inpatient ward consists of 12 single bed rooms. During inpatient palliative care, relatives can stay with the patient day and night if wanted (additional bed available). As visiting hours are not limited, visits of families and relatives are welcome at any time.

Additionally, rooms for consultations and communication with physicians or psychosocial, art or music therapists are provided in our specialized palliative care inpatient ward.

Admission to our specialized palliative care inpatient ward is possible on request of all departments of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, all institutions of the University Cancer Center Hamburg.
