The most important treatment methods for cancer are surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and various complementary therapies. Surgery and radiation therapy act locally on the tumor, while the other three drug therapies affect the entire body.
These methods are often combined to achieve the best possible effect. We will find the best possible treatment for you and involve you in the decisions. You can find an overview of our treatment options here:
A tumor board is an interdisciplinary conference where our specialists from various medical fields such as oncology, surgery, radiology, radiation therapy, and pathology meet to jointly develop the best possible individual treatment strategy for you. Each patient is discussed at least once during the course of treatment by the tumor board.
Based on all findings, the treatment options are discussed and a recommendation is made that takes into account the patient's overall health, the type and stage of the tumor, and current guidelines and studies.

Clinical trials are an essential part of medical progress. They enable research into new drugs, therapies, or combinations with the aim of continuously improving the treatment of cancer.
Participation can be beneficial for patients for several reasons. They gain early access to new treatment approaches that are not yet available outside of studies, while also contributing to medical progress: every participation helps to gain new insights that future patients can benefit from.
Participating in a study does not mean foregoing proven treatments – it means working with our experienced physicians to try new approaches when the conditions are right.
A balanced diet and sufficient exercise can help you develop a sustainable lifestyle that can help you in every phase of the disease. In addition, complementary methods such as medicinal plant therapy can show you what else you can do for yourself - tailored to your medication treatment.
Take advantage of psycho-oncological and psychosocial counseling - even during follow-up care or at a later stage.
Patient support groups offer counseling and support for patients and their families. You can learn from the experiences of other patients and receive valuable information and support on how to take the next steps. At UCC Hamburg, we consider it a matter of course to support our patients in contacting self-help groups.
Dealing with a cancer diagnosis is as individual as the people affected themselves. Some want to gather as much information as possible, while others need distance, space, and time to focus on themselves first.
We have compiled a selection of information materials for you.
