The Hubertus Wald Tumor Center – University Cancer Center Hamburg (UCC Hamburg) has been certified as an Oncology Center by the German Cancer Society (DKG) since 2011. Additionally, it has been recognized as an Oncology Excellence Center by the German Cancer Aid (DKH) since 2009. The certification criteria are reviewed annually through audits and serve as a standardized assessment of excellent cancer care and special attention to patients.
Research: Cross-center research programs are conducted on topics such as dissemination and metastasis, prostate cancer, leukemias and lymphomas, neuro-oncology, gastrointestinal tumors & immuno-oncology, as well as cancer epidemiology.
Studies & Trials: UCC Hamburg conducts numerous studies on drug development and quality of life improvements. Study management is carried out in collaboration with our partners.
Quality: Regular audits have been conducted to implement tumor board decisions and manage the system. These audits are also reviewed through annual external, independent evaluations and serve as the foundation for the certification of our organ cancer centers.
Central Units: The central units include the cancer registry, study center, biobank, ECTU, our central contact point, and the core unit (central administration).

Together, we are constantly working to improve cancer treatment for our patients and their caregivers.
The UCC Hamburg pursues the goal of providing optimal individualized tumor medical care for patients. To this end, our employees are continuously advancing clinical and translational research in the Hamburg metropolitan region. Personalized therapy concepts are offered on the basis of molecular biological analyses. In addition to therapy and research, we take care of the individual well-being of patients through numerous additional services such as music, art, and sports therapy or nutritional counseling. Our prevention and aftercare concepts are also subject to continuous further development.
In 2015, Hamburg became the first federal state to implement the amended regional cancer registry law in close cooperation with the clinical cancer registry at the UKE, which is coordinated by the UCC Hamburg. The Hamburg Cancer Registry (HKR) was founded in 1926, making it the oldest of its kind in the world.
At UCC Hamburg, patients with the entire spectrum of oncological and hematological diseases receive outpatient and inpatient care. Depending on the treatment methods—such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery—inpatient and outpatient care is provided in the respective clinics.
The comprehensive range of care and therapy for oncology and hematology patients at the UCC Hamburg is based on the latest scientific findings and defined treatment plans. One of the main focuses is on personalized medicine. Based on interdisciplinary tumor conferences and consultation services, there is close cooperation with all cooperating centers and external partners in and around the Hamburg metropolitan region.

2022 – Initial certification of Sarcoma Center, initial certification of Visceral Oncology Center (expansion to include liver), initial certification of Center for Hematological Neoplasms
2021 – Initial certification of Center for Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer, Uro-Oncology Center (expansion of Prostate Center to include bladder and kidney)
2020/21 – Initial certification of Pediatric Oncology Center (DKG Organ Cancer Center), partnership between Breast Center Hamburg and Jerusalem Hospital
2020 – Establishment of the Patient Advisory Board to strengthen the patient perspective
2019 – Initial certification of Skin Tumor Center (DKG Organ Cancer Center)
2018 – Partnership with LungenClinic Großhansdorf for lung cancer
2017 – Initial certification of the ENETS Center for Excellence – European certification as a center of excellence for neuroendocrine tumors
2016 – Renewed award and start of third funding period by the DKH as a leading oncology center
2014 – Initial certification of the Colorectal Cancer Center (DKG Organ Cancer Center)
2013 – Renewed award and start of second funding period by the DKH as a leading oncology center
2011 – Initial accreditation as a higher-level oncology center (DKG) with a head and neck tumor center (organ cancer center) and palliative medicine
2010 – Establishment of a central administration/contact point/outpatient clinic for all cancer patients
2009 – Initial certification as a gynecological cancer center (DKG organ cancer center) with certified dysplasia unit since 2015, certification as a family-friendly company and according to criteria for patient safety and ethics & values, overall group certification of the UKE according to DIN ISO 9001 (first hospital in Germany), Award and start of the first funding period by the DKH as a leading oncology center
2007 – Founding and launch of the University Cancer Center Hamburg (UCC Hamburg) and certification by the DGHO as an oncology center, initial certification as a prostate center (DKG organ cancer center)
