A cancer diagnosis usually leads to significant changes in everyday life and personal circumstances. Our social services team provides guidance and supports communication with institutions and authorities during your hospital stay and after discharge.
A cancer diagnosis often brings an overwhelming amount of information and many decisions that need to be made. Responsibilities of institutions and authorities—as well as the possibilities and limitations of social legislation—are not always easy to understand. You may feel alone with many of the questions that arise during a cancer journey, especially after you have been discharged from the hospital.
Questions regarding social and legal issues or managing changes in daily life often come up only during or after completion of outpatient cancer treatment. It may become important to reassess life goals or address practical challenges in light of new health conditions, and to adjust plans continuously as needed.
This is where the outpatient social services at UCC Hamburg come in. Our social workers are specialists in addressing and clarifying psychosocial and social-law issues within a holistic care framework. The goal is to support you individually in making well-informed, independent decisions, putting them into action, and strengthening your ability to participate fully in daily life. This also includes helping you access medical and social support services and evaluating these options together with you.
The outpatient social services at UCC Hamburg complement outpatient medical and therapeutic care and can be accessed either by you directly or through your primary care physician and/or therapist.
