On February 6, 2026, numerous representatives from politics, religious communities, and the media gathered at the Turkish Consulate General in Hamburg with the Turkish-Language Oncology Navigation Service (TOL) of the UCC Hamburg, under the project leadership of PD Dr. Faik Güntaç Uzunoğlu and Prof. Dr. Marianne Sinn. The focus was on how Turkish-speaking cancer patients and their families in the greater Hamburg area can be reached and informed in an even more targeted manner. As part of the TOL project, a guidance consultation in the native language was established specifically for Turkish-speaking patients.

Receiving support in one’s own language during the challenging time of a cancer diagnosis builds trust and can significantly ease the treatment process. Patients and their families should be well-informed and supported at all times. Furthermore, the project aims to break down linguistic and cultural barriers and facilitate access to cutting-edge oncological care for Turkish-speaking cancer patients.
Among those present at the consulate were Consul General Berati Alver, the chairman of DITIB Northern Germany, Bülent Arlıoğlu, the imam of the Central Mosque, Mesut Bayar, and the chairman of BİG (Milli Görüş), Mehmet Enes Nas. Also in attendance were Erdal Altuntaş, journalist (Post Zeitung Hamburg); Ahmet Durmuş, editor-in-chief of Hamburg Haber and chairman of the Association of Turkish Journalists in Hamburg e.V.; and Rıza Atamtürk, journalist and radio host (Hayat Zeitung and Anılar FM).
PD Dr. Faik Güntaç Uzunoğlu, Dr. Anas Preukschas, and Neslihan Güzelsoy, M.Sc., presented the project and explained the current challenges in reaching the target audience. During a subsequent Q&A session, the participants explored key aspects of the project in greater depth. A joint brainstorming session yielded concrete proposals—including informational events, increased radio appearances, editorial articles in newspapers, and Turkish-language digital communication formats. In the future, even closer networking among all participants is expected to help further facilitate access to information resources. The meeting at the Consulate General marked a successful start to this effort.
