The network aims to improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients with advanced lung cancer in Germany.
The National Network for Genomic Medicine (nNGM) Lung Cancer gives patients access to state-of-the-art molecular diagnostics and innovative therapies. The network aims to improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients with advanced lung cancer in Germany and is funded by German Cancer Aid.
The nNGM is an extension of the Cologne Network for Genomic Medicine, which was initially founded by the Lung Cancer Group Cologne (LCGC) and is based at the Center for Integrated Oncology Aachen Bonn Cologne Düsseldorf at the University Hospital Cologne.
Since the rate of molecular testing in Germany is too low compared to other European countries, university centers have joined forces to offer comprehensive, standardized molecular diagnostics (NGS-based). These diagnostics cover all clinically relevant genetic changes.
Five specialized task forces coordinate implementation within the network. The data collected is also used for cancer research, in particular to better understand rare genetic subtypes and develop targeted therapeutic approaches.
As part of Task Force 2 of the nNGM's Preclinical Platform, mutations in the EGF and HER2 receptors are being modeled as cancer-causing genes at the Hamburg site in order to determine the best possible therapeutic approaches.
