Emerging viral infections are among the greatest threats to global health. These include newly appearing viruses or known viruses that rapidly spread to new regions and populations, such as Ebola, MERS, Mpox, and SARS-CoV-2. Many of these viruses originate in animals and can spill over to humans. Because humans often lack immunity and there are no existing treatments, these viruses can spread quickly—especially in our globalized, changing world.
To prepare for future outbreaks, the
Our Collaborative Research Center brings together scientists and clinicians to investigate key aspects of emerging viral infections. Using cutting-edge techniques, we study how viruses interact with human cells, identify potential targets for treatments, and explore immune responses to inform the development of effective interventions.
