1. Epidemiology:
Using large-scale databases, we investigate the incidence, course and outcomes of acute cardiovascular diseases, with a particular focus on the volume-outcome-association for established and new therapies.
2. Phenotyping:
Based on a prospective registry of patients with acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock, we provide a deep phenotyping of patients, aiming to unravel key pathogenetic axes, to improve the diagnosis and risk stratification in the acute situation, as well as to identify new treatment options.
3. Randomised controlled trials:
We have participated in multiple randomised controlled trials as a study site, among them DanGer Shock (NCT01633502) and ECLS-SHOCK (NCT02544594). We also initiated the ongoing randomized controlled UNLOAD ECMO trial (NCT05577195), which assesses the mortality impact of active left ventricular unloading on top of VA-ECMO vs. VA-ECMO alone in patients with severe cardiogenic shock.
