C3i - Center for Inflammation, Infection and Immunity
The UKE provides outstanding research networks and cooperation for ACS. The UKE has a research network ‘ Center for inflammation, infection and immunity ’, harnessing these three fields to create substantial added value. C3i is a competence network consisting of various UKE institutions and external cooperation partners, such as the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine and the Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology , whose scientific and clinical focus is on inflammatory and infectious diseases.
The major research focus of this network is to target inflammatory responses across organs and diseases, which is also the focus of the iSTAR program.
Hamburg Center of Translational Immunology
There is clearly a major need for new therapies, which can more specifically modulate the inflammatory response across different organs and diseases. Accordingly, and based on the local strengths in research, the UKE established the Hamburg Center of Translational Immunology (HCTI) at the end of 2019. The basic concept of the HCTI is to close the translational gap between basic immunology research and clinical application.
Participants of iSTAR will be able to use the established HCTI research platforms depending on their individual needs. This will enable them to develop new and specific forms of therapy, targeting inadequate inflammatory responses in their particular field.
