If you are a student at one of the ERASMUS partner universities of the Medical Faculty Hamburg and you are interested in doing part of your studies at Hamburg University, then please apply directly at your home university, who then will contact us.
The teaching language at the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg is German. Therefore good German language skills are necessary for successful studying. With poor German language skills you can participate in a language course.

If you are an ERASMUS incoming student from one of the above mentioned partner universities in the winterterm 2011/2012 and / or the summerterm 2012 the following information might be interesting for you:
In order to be able to study as an ERASMUS student at the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg, the following steps are necessary:
Nomination: Your ERASMUS coordinator at your home university has to nominate you as a candidate for the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg.
Application: After being accepted by the ERASMUS coordinator of the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg please apply at the Medical Faculty. Please fill in the following forms:
- Application Form (AF) (Deadline May 31st, 2011)
- Application Form for a room in a student residence (soon availabe online) (for more information see below) (Deadline May 31st, 2011) -> please fill in the form by computer (not hand-written!)
- Learning Agreement (LA): it has to be signed at least one month before the beginning of our courses. It can be changed during your stay in Hamburg. Please consult our curriculum of the clinical part (to date in German only). (Deadline August 31st, 2011)
- Student IForm Incoming Students (Deadline August 31st, 2011)
Please send all documents to your ERASMUS coordinator at the Medical Faculty.
Online enrollment at the University of Hamburg by the end of August 2010 (Deadline for 2011 will be announced soon): click here to enroll (only ERASMUS Incomings starting in the winterterm).
Procedure:
1. Create an account
2. Online enrollment: Please type "1" for Fachsemester (Fächerwahl)
3. Please print out all documents and send them together with a copy of your health insurance card to the ERASMUS coordinators of the Medical Faculty Ms. Beate Schmidt and Ms. Silke Merkel. We will forward your documents to Ms. Alpen/University of Hamburg.
Application for a language courses: see below (further important information)
A medical check-up: If some specific blood tests have been done at home, no check-up has to be done at the UKE. For further information see "Medical Certification" form. The test must not be older than three months at the beginning of the courses at the University of Hamburg. Please email the filled form approx. one month before start of the semester to the ERASMUS coordinators Silke Merkel or Beate Schmidt. You will either receive an ok or a medical check-up on your first days in Hamburg is necessary. Without a successful medical check-up you are not allowed to start the courses!
Please inform us in advance of your arrival date, and please schedule an appointment with your ERASMUS coordinator for one of your first days here. This year there will be a Welcome Day for all ERASMUS students at the Medical Faculty in the beginning of October - in addition to the International Welcome Week of the University of Hamburg (see below).
After your arrival you should visit your ERASMUS coordinator of the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg.
At the UKE you will receive:
- an ID card which has to be worn visibly on the UKE campus. This card allows you to access certain restricted areas and to use the cantine.
- access to our student programme FACT
- a library card
- your schedule
- After having enrolled online at the University of Hamburg you will receive a ticket to use the public transport system in Hamburg (HVV) as well as your certificate of enrollment. Both are valid for one month. After having transferred your "Semesterbeitrag" (administration fee) you will receive the documents valid for the whole semester. ERASMUS students are waived from student fees, however the "Semesterbeitrag" has to be paid.
During your first days in Hamburg you must do the following:
First steps (Erste Schritte, University of Hamburg): Information on your enrollment at the University of Hamburg, create a bank account, registration in Hamburg, ...
In case you need support with your registration in Hamburg, you may contact the Hamburg Welcome Center. The Wecome Center does not
support you with the enrollment at the University of Hamburg.

University of Hamburg - Medical Faculty
The University of Hamburg is one of the largest universities in Germany. It consists of 6 faculties, one of these is the Medical Faculty. The Medical Faculty is located on the campus of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) which is approximately 3 km from the main campus of the University of Hamburg. Many events are organized by the University of Hamburg and therefore take place on the main campus.

Language courses
The intensive language course at the University of Hamburg takes place in the beginning of October 2011. There are also language courses during winter and summer semester. A language test has to be taken in advance. If you are not able to attend the test, please do the online test. During the term evening language courses will also be offered.
If you are interested in a language course, please contact the ERASMUS coordinator at the University of Hamburg Beate Schmidt or Silke Merkel as we need this information for your schedule. Since the courses at the Medical Schedule will probably start before the intensive language course, it is only possible to attend this course if you choose subjects of block 1 or block 2 during the first trimester (October to December).

Buddy Net
The Buddy Net Program helps you to get in touch with students of the Medical Faculty right at the beginning of your stay. Your Buddy might pick you up at the airport, he helps you to get to know the University of Hamburg, cultural life in Hamburg etc. If you are interested please inform your ERASMUS coordinator at the Medical Faculty of the University of Hamburg.

Medizin I: Preclinical part (Year 1 and 2)
Medizin II: Clinical part (Year 3,4 and 5): The clinical part consists of 6 modules and one elective subject. For ERASMUS students, it is possible to combine certain subjects form different modules. After having received your learning agreement, we will organize your course schedule. A short description in English of the Clinical Curriculum is available at the Deans Office for Student Affairs. Since all courses are in German we recommand students with poor German language skill to focus on your language skills during the first trimester and not to take too many courses. You can participate in the intensive language course at the beginning of the semester if you choose subjects of the blocks 1 and 2.
