Working Group "Clinical Neuropsychology"

The duties of the working group 'clinical neuropsychology' in the framework of the Workgroup Psychoses include, in addition to research, mainly neuropsychological and psychometric diagnostics of patients. Standardised methods of neuropsychology are used (e.g. Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Wechsler Memory Scale, battery of tests to investigate concentration, Rey-Auditory Verbal Learning Test).

They cover the following frequently occurring issues:

Potential factors influencing neuropsychological dysfunctioning are recorded and considered in the subsequent diagnostics. Between 200 and 250 cases are processed in one year. For neurocognitive rehabilitation we use the CogPack training programme, which we currently evaluate concomitantly. Since the beginning of 2005, we additionally apply a self-developed training programme with the objective to strengthen metacognitive abilities in psychotic patients.

Apart from neuropsychological diagnostics, we are involved in the research of a number of psychiatric clinical pictures. Neuropsychological procedures as well as questionnaire based tests/interviews and experimental-cognitive paradigms (e.g. Semantic Priming, Negative Priming, Task Switching, Inhibition of Return; source memory) are involved. These studies are conducted in cooperation with colleagues from our centre (a.o. Dr. Fricke, PD Dr. Lambert, PD. Dr. Kellner) and scientists from other institutions (o.a. University of British Columbia, Universität der Bundeswehr in Hamburg).
