About us > Our services > Special Inpatienten Ward for psychosis

Sometimes, outpatient treatment is no longer sufficient to cope with a crisis - inpatient treatment is then the necessary consequence. In order to ensure optimal treatment also in the inpatient setting, the facilities of a specialised ward for psychoses will be at your disposal. The staff is particularly familiar with this illness, and the weekly programme is designed to your special needs.
In a psychiatric crisis, it feels good to be in experienced hands, but also to have a voice in each treatment step. Moreover, it is important that the relatives are well informed and integrated and accordingly worry less. The staff of the ward are very experienced in the treatment of people with psychosis and respect these important principles.
Many people - und not only those with a psychosis - associate preconceived ideas and anxieties with psychiatric treatment, especially in an inpatient ward. We take these prejudices seriously and endeavour to dispel your anxieties. We will try to make your inpatient treatment a positive and successful experience.
The team of the ward consists of health workers and nurses, a senior physician, a ward physician, two interns and a social education worker, and a family therapist is also available. Out of this team, a personal care manager and a doctor will be at your disposal during your entire stay and will provide individual care to you and your family.
At the beginning, there will be an admission interview, and sufficient time will be given to you and your family to describe and discuss your problems. Then we will ask you some questions concerning various areas of your life and symptoms of illness. This helps us to better understand your situation and become better acquainted with you and your family. During the admission interview, we will also talk about pharmacological treatment. Your positive or negative former experiences with medical drugs will be considered as well as your wishes concerning future medication.
In the first days after admission, we will perform some additional physical examinations. They are necessary to check whether your are physically healthy. They include e.g. a physical examination by one of our doctors, a blood test, an EKG, a so-called EEG to find out whether you suffer from a seizure disorder, and a so-called CCT or MRT, also a method of image acquisition of your brain. All these examinations are routine and not painful. Afterwards, we will discuss the results with you in detail.
A specialised weekly programme will be at your disposal, orientated towards problems often associated with psychosis. It includes a great variety of offers that people with a psychosis often need for their recovery or healing. Please download the weekly programme and take your time to look at it. Together with you, your care management team will then work out an individual weekly programme fitted to your needs.
The objective of treatment is that you stabilise as soon as possible and that you receive sufficient and also long-term support immediately following the inpatient treatment. It takes some time to prepare and reach this goal. Most patients stay on the ward between 2 and 4 weeks. It would be good if you allowed yourself to take this time.
