The department of psychiatry and psychotherapy of the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) offers treatment to people suffering from a great variety of mental illnesses and problems.
In accordance with the bio-psycho-social model of being mentally ill, the therapeutic spectrum includes all three treatment levels. Based on the formulated treatment aims and the available resources, a treatment plan consisting of individual modules is worked out for each patient.
From admission to discharge, patients are treated as far as possible by the same treatment team and in the same ward. In case of re-hospitalisation, patients are admitted to the same ward if a bed is available. Thus, relations that had developed may be used therapeutically and relational discontinuation is avoided.
Each ward has a treatment team that is headed by a senior physician. The treatment team includes various professional groups, which assure interdisciplinary cooperation in reaching the agreed treatment aims. The wide range of treatment offers is orientated towards the latest findings in the treatment of psychiatric illness.
The nursing staff works according to the system of attachment figures. The attachment person will accompany the patient from admission to discharge and will be his/her contact person as long as he/she stays in the ward.
Close cooperation with outpatient units and consistent treatment concepts are an important basis.
Cooperation with family doctors, psychiatrists in private practices, psychotherapists and other services, as well as frankness and cooperation with the relatives of our patients are of equal importance.
In addition, being a university hospital, we are committed to research and teaching.
