Our Department is specialized in so-called multimodal imaging. This technology allows unambiguous assignment of metabolic disturbances to anatomic structures. PET/CT and SPECT/CT are two state-of-the-art instruments we use especially for diagnostics of tumor patients. Another specialty is the nuclear medicine diagnostics of diseases of the central nervous system. This enables us to provide very precise diagnostic information for the diagnosis of impaired memory and Parkinson's disease, making differential therapy possible.
Outpatient care of patients is provided in close association with the Medical Care Center (MVZ) of the UKE, enabling us to offer the whole diagnostic range of our Department to these patients as well. We are especially flexible in our care of thyroid disease, not only treating benign and malignant thyroid tumors on our therapy ward but also providing outpatient care for patients following treatment. Research We work intensively on developing and testing software solutions for medical problems. Our primary goal is to improve the diagnostics of neurological diseases like dementia and Parkinson's disease and tumor detection, for instance of lung tumors. We cooperate closely with medical technology companies, and we publish our results in renowned national and international journals.
The Department is the center in northern Germany for hospital radioiodine therapy of benign and malignant diseases of the thyroid gland. The number of PET/CT scans grows by 200 each year. For urgent scans we guarantee flexible scheduling of appointments within 24 hours. As a special service we provide same-day findings for urgent scans.
