The Department of Internal Medicine II treats primarily patients with cancer of the internal organs or hematopoietic (blood-forming) system. We are especially competent in the diagnosis and therapy of blood coagulation disorders and of cancers of the blood system (leukemia and lymphoma), germ cell tumors (e.g. testicular cancer) as well as malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, connective tissue, respiratory organs and the head and neck. In therapy studies we continuously test the efficacy of new treatment methods. Our Pneumonology Section is specialized in the treatment of patients with pulmonary hypertension.
Certified by the DGHO (German Society for Hematology and Oncology).
In our department we work on the experimental and clinical development of so-called molecular targeted therapies. The aim of these therapies is to selectively deactivate mechanisms crucial to the growth and/or development of metastases of malignant tumor cells. We do research on this form of therapy for leukemia and for solid tumors like lung, colon and renal cell cancer.
