The University Heart Center (UHC) offers a high-standard of treatment for a wide range of congenital and acquired heart defects. The Paediatric Heart Program is comprised of the Clinic and Policlinic for Paediatric Cardiology and the Clinic for Paediatric Heart Surgery. The highly specialized Heart Center is staffed by specialists whoconsider optimal treatment options for both children and adults to be a top priority. In order to ensure the best possible treatment for the youngest of patients, the clinic works closely with neonatologists, paediatric anaesthesiologists, psychologists and physiotherapists. A great deal of emphasis is placed on non-invasive diagnostic tools and non-operative therapies and treatments, as well as the use of heart catheters and the operative treatment of complex heart defects.
The clinic also offers a high level of expertise is diagnostic and therapy options and treatments of heart insufficiency and arrhythmia. The Paediatric Cardiology Department works closely with the Clinic for Heart Surgery and internal cardiologists. Approximately 250 interventions are performed every year, ranging from simple corrective procedures to the treatment of complex heart conditions. A highly-specialized team of surgeons and nurses is on-call 365 days a year to deal with emergencies.
The UHC is the only clinic in Hamburg to offer inpatient treatment of children with congenital heart defects. Qualified and specialized staff, working in cooperation with the Paediatric Cardiology Ward, provides each patient an accompanying family with individual, ized, integrative care. The UHC aims to ensure that both patients and their parents feel comfortable during the duration of treatment. The competent and effective treatment of young patients with childhood heart defects is the top priority of the UHC.
