Medical Director: Prof. Dr. Thomas Rösch
Director of Nursing: Irma Nehring
Managing Director: Jürgen Kupper
The interdisciplinary Endoscopy Department is the only autonomous endoscopy department in Germany. Prof. Soehendra, head of the Department, has contributed decisively with many innovations to global development and improvement of gastrointestinal endoscopy. Through this our Department has set a very high standard in this field and is renowned worldwide, with doctors visiting Hamburg regularly to learn new and established techniques from the UKE Endoscopy Team.
Nearly all tests at the Interdisciplinary Endoscopy Department and Clinic are performed on an outpatient basis:
Our main research interests are currently Barrett's esophagus (precancerous condition of the esophagus resulting from long-term heartburn) and Zenker's diverticulum (a pouch in the esophagus), treatment of chronic inflammation and abscesses of the pancreas, removal of very large gallstones and removal of very large gastrointestinal polyps.
Every year our Department holds more than 25 advanced training courses for specialists from all over the world. The Department also gives a presentation every year at the largest live global endoscopy conference (Endo-Club-Nord) in the Hamburg Congress Center.
