The Department

• Teaching:
  External teaching in the Pharmacy Program and in the Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Program of the Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences of the University of Hamburg)
• Research:
  Molecular regulation of ion canals
  Signal processing in smooth muscle cells
• Training:
  Advanced training as a medical specialist in pharmacology and toxicology
  Advanced train as a pharmacologist

Research

Research topics:

• Cloning of calcium-activated potassium channels and investigation of their regulation using electrophysiological techniques in heterologous expression systems.
• Characterization of transgenic mice in which the gene coded for specific calcium-activated potassium channels has been deactivated.
• Studies on receptor-mediated signal transduction in smooth muscle cells of the blood vessels, bronchia and uterus.

Teaching and Continuing Education

Lectures and seminars on pathophysiology, pathobiochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacotherapy and toxicology as part of the study programs in Pharmacy and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology of the University of Hamburg
