Overview

For more than 20 years the Working Group is conducting projects on the issue of Social Gerontology. The local, national and European projects deal with the improvement of quality of social and health care for older people and their relatives, e.g. the current and future role of General Practitioners in geriatric care, Case- and Care-Management-Models and possibilities of sector- and cross-professional co-operation in care of older people and their relatives. Fields of activity are:

• analysis of the health care sector with respect to its structure
• concepts of individual and structural integrated care for older people (case- and care management)
• assessments for older people (EASYCare) and their families (COPE)
• accompanying research towards further gerontological training for various occupational groups (especially general practitioners)
• analysis of strain and support of carers - European comparison
• medical care in nursing homes
• systematic cooperation between scientific research, practice and politics (knowledge transfer)

Gerontological research supports Practice and Politics in solving social and health care political questions regarding improvement of life quality of older people and their relatives. Thus, special interest groups for carers have been initiated at European level and for Germany:
