The Department of Medical Sociology is part of the Center for Psychosocial Medicine (ZPM) and examines medical actions and health behavior in a social context.
Its main responsibilities are teaching and research, with the primary field of interest being "health care research".
Our department offers consulting services for community, state and federal social service providers (primarily health insurance funds). They take the form of expert opinions, expert reports, contract research, serving on advisory boards and continuing education courses.
Research activities are divided into six groups:
Teaching activities in Medicine 1 include a lecture, a course and a seminar in medical sociology. In addition, the department is involved in the practical course for exploring careers in medicine, gives two integrated seminars (Liver Cirrhosis and Sudden Hearing Loss) and offers elective courses in several topics. In Medicine 2, courses in social medicine (Block V) and prevention (Block I) are held.
Funding for several projects with a total volume of € 1,198,245 has been granted. A total of 62 scientific works have been published (in journals, essays, articles, book contributions and books).
