The main responsibility of our department is to present the full scope of anatomy as a subject to medical and dental students. Our department is part of the Center for Experimental Medicine.
Our research work deals primarily with tumor development and metastasis. The aim is to analyze the molecular mechanism of metastasis formation in order to develop therapy strategies. The results of this research work should contribute to improving the chance of cure for tumor patients. Our research projects receive funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG), the "Dr. Mildred Scheel Foundation for Cancer Research" and the industry.
Doctoral theses on these and other topics are assigned continuously. Interested students should contact the department office.
Teaching activities includes lectures, seminars and courses on macroscopic and microscopic anatomy. In addition, special seminars relating to clinical problems and the topic "Central Nervous System" are held. Students are also offered additional qualification in "Molecular Medicine" and the elective subject "General Anatomy".
Eight scientists and nine technicians work on the staff of the department. We currently supervise more than 20 doctoral students.
